We almost lost Steve!

(Ron Writing) Both yesterday and today our CF BoF met over at Steve and Nancy’s rig for morning devotions at 9:30 AM for a short Bible study and fellowship.

Yesterday we spent most of the day relaxing at home. Steve and Nancy taught Elena and me how to play cribbage and we had a nice visit. Also yesterday afternoon we had a Mexican-food potluck. Lots of good food and good fun. Last night we went over to listen to the musicians in Sunset Campground put on another great performance.

Today our CF group had a picnic outing. First we carpooled to Badwater, several miles south of Furnace Creek. This is the lowest spot in the US. After looking around there we drove to “The Devil’s Golf Course” area of the canyon to see the extremely rugged terrain formed by the salt deposits.

Next we went to “Artists Drive” and stopped at “Artists Palette” for lunch. Steve grilled hamburgers and several people made side dishes so we had a great picnic in the shade of “Pete”, Steve and Nancy’s Peterbuilt truck.

Our final stop was at Zabriskie Point. A short hike from the parking lot leads to a great spot from which to view the sunset. However, around 4 PM it got very cloudy so we didn’t get the usual beautiful sunset but the views of the mountains was very nice.

By the time we got back to the campground it was looking very stormy so we all hurried to stow anything that might blow around and soon we were getting a little rain. We all gathered inside James and Angelina’s large motorhome for some homemade cake and tea.
