A short clip of the entertainment

(Ron Writing) This morning we left Pahrump and drove west about 80 miles to Death Valley National Park, CA. We’ve been wanting to attend the annual Death Valley 49ers Encampment for several years but it’s never worked into our schedule until now. We found out that the Escapees Christian Fellowship BoF was having a rally just before the Encampment so we decided to come early and attend that also.

We’re camped in Overflow X area of the Sunset Campground at Furnace Creek. This is the same campground we stayed in for a few days this spring. We’re camped with eight other rigs and about 14 people attending the CF BoF rally. Last night we had a pot luck dinner and a nice time visiting and getting to know some Escapees we’d never met before. After dinner most of us went over to the central part of the campground where there is nightly music entertainment. A group of very talented amateur musicians have been performing here for a couple weeks prior to the Encampment for the past several years. Everyone just brings their own lawn chair and enjoys about 2 hours of very good western, bluegrass, and gospel music under the stars.

Our good friend John is also here for the encampment and is parked a short distance from us with a group of Escapee Solos. We saw John right after we arrived and he also came over this morning for a visit.

It’s pretty warm here – got up into the mid 90’s today and is supposed to be the same tomorrow but after that the forecast is for much cooler weather.
