Left Mesquite at 9:30 and took scenic route 89A to Page, Az. What an absolutely gorgeous ride especially through the Kaibab National Forest. The rather steep and curvy road reached an elevation of 8000 feet. Fortunately there were pullouts along the way which allowed for terrific views of the Vermilion Cliffs and Cliff Dwellers rocks. While at Cliff Dwellers I witnessed an old VW being parked. Turns out it was being used as a prop for a photo shoot for a jewelry company.

I went straight to the Navajo Antelope Canyon Tour office and was lucky enough to get a spot on the 3:30 tour. Not the optimum time ( 11 to 1) but since they were sold out for those times until Saturday I had no choice but to buy the ticket for today. As it turned out, I had a wonderful guide - Rosie - and the canyon was spectacular. The lighting is better earlier in the day but I thought the darkness added some interest. I did buy a CD for $4.99 of pictures taken by a professional at the perfect time of day.

I can't recommend this tour highly enough. We had plenty of time in the canyon, the guides helped you take photos, and imparted a great amount of geologic info - most of which I have already forgotten. Go if in the area.
