Today we headed along the B31 and through the Hollental canyon to the lake resort of Titisee. The road is the main artery through the Black Forest from Freiberg and we wanted to see what it was like as it was likely to be our road east with the coach We discovered that it was clearly a major truck and tour bus route and although a few interesting hairpin bends there was no problem with the road except the extent of traffic.

We arrived in Titisee and although quite touristy it had a beautiful location right on the lake. To get away from most of the crowds we decided to walk part of the lake shore path. It was a very hot day so walking under the shade of the trees was blissful. We stopped and ate our lunch on the shore watching the cruise boats.

From Titisee we decided to take the lesser roads back to base passing by Feldberg at 1493m the Black Forest’s highest summit. We stopped in Todtnau for an afternoon coffee and cake and to admire the pretty church and were almost tempted by the 2.9km roller-coaster summer toboggan run.

From Todtnau we made our way through some stunning Black Forest scenery with our road twisting and turning up the hillsides and alpine valleys. Coming out of the hills we came across a church dominating the hillside high above the village of Munstertal. We stopped to explore this beautiful church before heading back to base.
