Another beautiful day so we decided we would once again head into the Black Forest. This time we went to Belchen where we took the cable car up to the summit at 1415m. This was the first time Daisy had been on a cable car. She was fine once she was in the cable car but getting on was a bit of challenge then first time. Going up she watched with fascination the world going by below.

At the top we took one of the well marked trails which gave excellent views across the surrounding area. It was also much cooler than lower down so our walk was enjoyed by all of us. Returning to the cable car Daisy got on like and expert- Nothing to it!

Returning to the car we then drove to the small spa town of St Blasien. Dominating the town is the Dom or Cathedral completely out of proportion to the size of the town. It reminded us a bit of St Pauls Cathedral. The Dom was built in the 18th century under the powerful prince abbot Martin Gerbert and was modelled on Rome’s St Peter’s The Dom has the third largest cupola in Europe at 36m wide.

Many of the European churches can be dark and in fact dismal but walking into the Dom you are dazzled by white interior, the huge Corinthian pillars and the simplicity of the church. A complete surprise.

Finally it was another first for Daisy as she ate her first ice cream savouring every last lick!

Another good day.
