2011 Hogarths on the move again - to places afar travel blog

We pack Pierre and zig zag our way towards the coast via Auxi le Chateau and Craecy en Ponthieu (where we see our first genuine privately owned castle. Our first stop Le Crotoy (the mouth of the Somme River) then we wind our up the coast to Berck-Plage, Etaples (massive British Cemetery), Boulogne-sur-Mer and just before we reached Calais, at Cap Gris Nez, is a museum centred on a massive German gun bunker – the gun itself about as long as a cricket pitch and quite capable of reaching England.

Amazed at the number of full size crucifixes in villages and sometimes in private gardens – wasn’t aware that France was such a religious country.

At Calais we catch the 7.20pm tunnel train to Folkestone (a 35 minute trip and we don’t feel a thing).

We find ourselves a hotel and its not long before we are fast asleep – another long day.

We have decided not to continue to London but to base ourselves outside and catch a train in.
