Fargo Public Library, you betcha

Only a few details to mention here:

We had decided earlier on the north route across the country since neither of us had done it before, so we set off from Madison, and made it to the far side of Minnesota before crashing at a rest stop for the night. The next day, we cruised into Fargo, North Dakota, for breakfast. Yes, the only reason we stopped by Fargo was because we like the movie. Fargo was pretty damn boring, not that the movie suggested anything else. However, we stopped at the Cajun Grill downtown and had some really, really tasty sweet potato pancakes with cane syrup. Yum!

After breakfast, we tried to use the computers at the library, but North Dakota seems very particular about who they allow to use library computers, and we were only allowed to use the 15 minute stand up station. So we left quickly.

We drove west to Bismarck, North Dakota's capitol, for those that don't know. Let's Go suggested that the capitol building was cool, but it was this tall, ugly office building. We spent some time at an Internet café drinking coffee and budgeting and such, but our real purpose for being in Bismarck was to catch the Pistons game at a local bar. This bar, coincidentally, was once again BW3, so we recreated a previous evening with Brooke and Jer by consuming chicken wings and watching the Pistons kick some ass. There were an awful lot of Miami fans in the place, and Sam nearly got in seven and a half fights, but I informed her that I definitely would not get in a bar fight over basketball.

After the game, we headed west out of Bismarck toward Theodore Roosevelt National Park on the border with Montana. We were scheduled to meet Sam's mom, Sheila, here the following day (Tuesday). Sheila is on her way to North Carolina to visit Sam's sister, and our paths were crossing in North Dakota. Our plot this particular evening was to get as far as we could, then sleep in a rest stop. However, we drove through the craziest rain storm either of us have been in for some time (hail, lightning flashing around the car), then the rest stop in question was closed. Our will dissolved, we grabbed a crappy, stained sheet room in Dickinson, ND, to get some sleep and a shower.
