And a Benson sunset

On the morning of April 7 we departed Yuma AZ and headed to Benson AZ. We arrived at Kartchner Caverns State Park in the afternoon and got set up, then headed to the Escapeeā€™s Park in Benson for a short visit and dinner with Ginger.

Their are a few hiking trails located in the state park (and adjoining Coronado National Forest) and on the morning of the 8th, Bentley and Tom went for a hike on the Foothills Loop Trail. In the afternoon we went back to visit more with Ginger, and Herb returned from Casa Grande with their small travel trailer. They will be heading out soon on their Alaskan adventure with the new trailer pulled by their Jeep for the summer. We all went out to dinner at the Horseshoe Cafe in Benson and had a wonderful meal.

The next day was spent taking tours of the Caverns. (Both the big room and the rotunda/throne room). Photos are not allowed while on the tour, but we were both stunned by what we saw. The history of the Caverns is truly amazing! ( see azstateparks/Kartchner)

The morning of the 10th we had planned to leave and head east, but the weather forecast found us hunkered down for another day. It was WiNDY!! 25-35 mph winds with gusts at 60 mph. Not a day to be driving a bus down the highway. We had to move to a different site in the campground, and after we got settled in, we went back into Benson to do some grocery shopping. We also toured around the town checking out several of the murals that are on walls and the sides of buildings. We did not see them all, but the ones that we did were sure very nicely done. We also stopped back to see Ginger & Herb and wished them well on their Alaskan Adventure!
