|After spending 2 weeks in the Mojave Desert in SW California, the CoCo Locomoto was "on the road again!" Heading east from Blythe, CA can you name the next state we would come to? If you guessed Arizona, you are correct. Can you find it on the map? Can you name it's capital? It is also Arizona's largest city. Can you name the river that separates California and Arizona? It comes from the western part of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and travels over 1400 miles before it reaches the ocean. It has created what is called "one of the 7 wonders of the world." Can you name that wonder? It is also the nickname for Arizona. It is the Grand Canyon...which in places over 1 mile deep, 277 miles long and ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles. The desert covers over 1/3 of the state and is home to the Saguaro cactus which can get 45 feet tall. It has many other beautiful cactus and because of record rainfall this winter, the desert is so green right now and has caused the flowers and cactus to bloom late. The Phoenix area has a connection with Seattle...can you guess what that connection is? It is the spring training camp of the Seattle Mariners. They play their games in Peoria which is a suburb of Phoenix. We have been spending time with friends who winter in Mesa. One day we went to the Mesa Flea Market which is over 1 1/4 miles long with over 1600 booths! Got tired before we saw it all! Also we toured Ceretta's Candy which makes tons of different kinds of candy. We were disappointed in the tour as we were unable to see how the candy was made and they don't make their own chocolate. There are many wild horses in this part of the desert and Grandpa has seen them but I have not. There has also been several rattlesnakes spotted in the campground...so far none "up close and personal for us!"
