A beautiful facility in a beautiful setting.

(Ron Writing) Today we took a drive west on Hwy 180 and then south on the Hume Lake Rd. Hume Lake is one of those beautiful mountain lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There are many of these lakes in the high country but most of them are only visited by backpackers. Hume Lake is in the Sequoia National Forest. There are forest service campgrounds there and also a large church camp that is busy all summer with youth from the surrounding area.

Along the drive to Hume Lake we stopped at a turnout and discovered a short steep trail leading to a rock outcropping where we had a spectacular 180° view of parts of Kings Canyon and a section of the road we drove a couple days ago. We just sat out on the rock soaking in the beauty for awhile.

We stopped at the church camp to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery while we ate our lunch at a picnic table near the lake. We then continued south through the forest to where the road ends at Generals Highway and headed north back to our campsite. This was a nice loop drive and our first time driving the section of road south of Hume Lake.

Later this afternoon Elena baked a batch of espresso krispies (coffee flavored rice crispy bars) – excellent! This evening we cooked fish and vegetables over the campfire and had strawberry longcakes for dessert.
