2011 Hogarths on the move again - to places afar travel blog

Up early and metro to the airport. We arrive much too early to check in but wasn’t sure if the service would be slower because it is Good Friday.

We finally manage to get rid of our luggage and go through security – strange that we do not have to go to immigration now that we are in the EU.

Our flight to Paris on time – we arrive at Orly, a slight delay with the baggage and then we are picked up and taken to Citroen to pick up our Berlingo. In no time at all our luggage is stowed, the forms are signed and we are on our way.

So now we have a left hand drive car – the worst being that the gears are on the right and I keep trying to change the door handle – and I have to learn to keep to the right. I run over a curb in the first 5 minutes and then, lesson learnt, things become a little easier. The round a bouts are a challenge.

We have driven 45kms before we are finally rid of Paris and are on our way to Amiens. We follow the main highway – agriculture all the way.

When we arrive I ring the hotel to get directions (to my surprise the car does not have GPS) only to find out that I have stuffed our bookings and we are not expected until tomorrow.

In all our trips this is the first time I have done this. We hit the streets and finally end up at an IBIS hotel that has some rooms – not bad at Easter and the Anzac weekend.

Tea at a Turkish Kebab place and then to bed – it has been quite a big day.
