|060908 - LEG 4 - BAD DRIVING DAY. When I originally designed this trip I wanted to focus our stops in three buckets – 1) Western National Parks, 2) Gulf Coast Sites (have not yet explored), and 3) East Coast Memories (sites from my background growing up and serving in the Navy). My objective was to take a leisurely pace travelling no more than 6 hours per day with every other day off for exploring, hiking, and fishing. Given our target arrival date in Maine, we did not have the time to maintain this slow pace so I had to incorporate one marathon leg. Monday we executed this 900 mile leg driving from Holbrook, Arizona to Duncanville, Texas.
Overall the trip was quite smooth. Keane slept a great deal while Neil and I discussed a number of very interesting topics in addition to completing our reading of Chapter 4 of the Art of War. We stopped early in the day in Albuquerque, NM at a T-mobile store and secured a new GPRS connection. By the time we arrived in Texas, Neil had completed a great deal of Genealogy research and studied the history of a number of very interesting people including Joshua Chamberlain. This discussion was very helpful at keeping me alert behind the wheel.
Keane’s highlight of the day was stopping at a Fireworks store. I must admit that we made a small purchase, but nothing could have met Keane’s desires or expectations.
We arrived at our hotel in Duncanville, TX at about 1:30AM and went to bed.
