Alaska Team 2007 travel blog

Today began with a leisurely breakfast in the hotel, and then, as it was Sunday, we were off to a Karen church service. The Karen (pronounced Ka-WREN) are one of several Burmese ethnic groups. The service was held in Sharon's 'team house', and we met several new Karen friends. We made introductions of our team, and they introduced themselves. They sang songs to us, and we sang songs to them. Rick spoke a sermon, and we all visited and snapped photos afterwards.

Then we were off to be tourists around Kanchanaburi! We explored the market square near the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai, and enjoyed lunch on the Floating Restaurant. Then we toured the War Museum and walked the grounds of the War Cemetary. It was all very touching and humbling. We enjoyed a bit of shopping, and then returned to the hotel to drop our parcels before eating dinner across the street from the hotel. The restaurant served both Western and Asian food, and that was a hi-light for several of us. Hosanna especially enjoyed her pizza with toast and peanut-butter! Then we were off to the hotel to enjoy our final night of soft beds for a few days, as we will be heading back out into a remote jungle area.
