I Understand

We debate taking the RV or the motorcycle to town. We take the RV. There is the possibility of showers.

Our first stop is the Ugly Bug Fly Shop. We book a half-day fishing trip for tomorrow.

John has fished the North Platte twice before. The water is running very high but the fishing is supposedly still good. We will see.

We head to the National Historic Trail Interpretive Center. We visited this center many years ago. This is an interactive museum with a great movie in the round.

The Oregon Trail, California Trail, Mormon Trail, Pony Express and Transcontinental Railroad all came through Casper. Casper was the site of the last crossing of the North Platte River for the pioneers. There are interesting displays for each trail.

There is a very well done simulated crossing of the North Platte River. We sit in a wagon. The wagon rocks. The video looking out of the wagon is like a real river crossing. We keep hearing “Stay in the wagon.” We see the wagon in front of us tip over and float downstream

I try my luck pulling a Mormon handcart. I would not have made it! I am quickly winded.

Back at the campground, we prepare for tomorrow’s fishing trip. The park is again quiet.

Note: I found out why the park was so busy this weekend. There was a high school tournament in town. Sites opened up Sunday as families left when their team lost.
