We are in Oregon. The forecast: Partly Cloudy. We head south on Route 101, the Oregon Coast Scenic Highway.
Our first stop is Cannon Beach. We park the RV and walk to the beach. It is a relatively clear day. To the north, we see Tillamook Lighthouse. It is my first lighthouse even though it is no longer in operation. It is a little over a mile offshore. Since it is a calm day, there are no waves splashing over it.
To the south, we see the often photographed, Haystack Rock. It is a bit too far to walk to and there is limited parking in town for RV’s. We settle for pictures from afar. I do not get my feet wet.
We continue down the coast. We pass through seashore town after town. We climb for a while. Like the Great River Road., we cannot see the water continuously but when we do, it is spectacular.
There are no straight sections on this road. It requires concentration to drive. I would not want to put in an eight-hour day.
We stop in Galibaldi at a Myrtlewood factory outlet store. In Tillamook, we find the cheese factory. The factory is very busy! If you drive the coast, you stop here.
At the cheese factory, we take the short self-guided tour. We have lunch. We treat ourselves to ice cream.
We head to our new campground near Lincoln City. Again, we climb. Eventually, we settle into a shady site in our new park. It has not rained today! Hurray!
