|Both Mary Jane and I read a book called "Read My Pins" - the story of Madeline Albright's pin collection. The traveling exhibit of some of these pins is currently at the Phoenix Art Museum - that called for a visit. The pins are amazing and, of course, photography was not allowed. I guess they want you to buy the book at the museum store. Ms. Albright became known for wearing pins that made a statement - many a foreign dignitary could tell her mood by the pin she chose to wear for a meeting. She inherited some from family, some were gifts, and in later years, some she actually bought some for herself.
Across the hall was an exhibit called "The Cape" . I loved looking at these elegant fashion pieces that spanned the centuries.
Mary Jane took me into a totally dark room that became lit with a few red fireflies then, a few more, and eventually it looked like thousands of tiny multicolored lights everywhere. I became a bit disoriented after walking through the dark room but fortunately Mary Jane found the way out. Great fun!
We lunched at the Museum Cafe and then explored the Western Art Gallery, a photography exhibit , and a bit of the Oriental Gallery. After that we looked at each other as if to say time to call it a day.
I can't think of anyone better to experience these exhibits with than Mary Jane. It was wonderful to see her again and catch up on Canyon Vista news. We will get together again soon I'm sure.
