Third Stop - Pizza!

great chopped salad!

Louise, Elsie ( my painting teacher), and I went on a walking food tour of Old Town Scottsdale from 11 to 2. It was a bit chilly this morning but by the time we were on our fifth stop I was frying in my winter jacket. It turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous day.

There were 11 people on the tour - all friendly and hungry! Our guide was adorable, knowledgeable, and extremely attentive.

The first of six stops was The Mission restaurant where we were served home made chips and salsa -( honestly some of the best I've ever had) followed by a pork shoulder taco - superb!.. The seasoning on the meat , the white cheese and the sauce were outstanding.

Next we visited an imported olive oil and balsamic vinegar company called Outrageous Oils and Vinegars. We tasted a wide variety of oils from tiny cups. The aged balsamic vinegar was so delicious that it was like drinking liquid velvet.

Third stop was Grimaldi's Pizza - been there , done that.

Next was a place called 5th and Wine. A glass of sangria was waiting for us when we arrived followed by platters of fried pickles and plates of small slices of wonderful bread with a fabulous hummus spread topped with thinly sliced cucumber.

While we were walking from place to place,, Zach gave us the history of the Scottsdale, pointed out landmarks, and gave us the story behind each restaurant. He was delightful.

The fifth stop was Cowboy Ciao. Each person got a generous portion of their famous chopped salad . It is so different from other chopped salads . A couple of ingredients really set this one apart - dehydrated sweet corn - sounds terrible right? - it adds crunch and is delicious . The dried currents , pepitas , and home made yogurt based dressing really make this a standout dish.

Dessert was served at our sixth and final stop - Kelly's of Southbridge. Homemade twinkies and Kelly's version of beignets was accompanied by a dark and stormy cocktail. Great way to end the tour. Louise and Elsie are such foodies that I couldn't think of better people to do this tour with. So glad they liked my suggestion.

We drove to the historic Arizona Biltmore to see the Christmas display. Very disappointing.
