We stayed 3 nights in Christchurch as we had arranged to meet some old friends who have now settled there (Gina and Dean - for those that know Mr & Mrs J, Gina is there eldest daughter). We arrived fairly early and just had a walk into town through the botanic gardens stopping off at the museum. On the second day (Thursday) we met up with Gina and Dean and had a great brunch in Little Poms Cafe. We left them about midday and took the tram tour of the town. Made a visit to the cardboard cathedral which is the temporary replacement for the one destroyed in the 2011 earthquake. Actually a pretty impressive building. Had a few beers in a bar in New Regents Street before heading for the local RSA (Returned and Services Association) for a big steak.
We had a lovely day with Gina and Dean on the Friday. They picked us up and took us sightseeing before heading back to their beautiful place by the beach for a BBQ. Their dog took a shine to Leigh and as it was bigger than her, got its way!
We got an Uber cab home which is only worthy of mention as we stood waiting for it for about 20 minutes and after we left, the exact spot was wiped out by a drink driver. Poor Gina and Dino, it was their driveway that way damaged but a luck escape for us.
