Our second day in York saw us visiting the Jorvik Viking Centre. The centre stands on the site of an important archaeology find which discovered the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking city of Jorvik. The Centre presents the history of the Vikings and displays a number of artefacts. In an interesting display we were taken via a time capsule (ride) around a recreation of the city getting an interesting perspective of the city.

After Jorvik we decided we wanted a good walk so we decided to go outside York to Beningbrough Hall and Gardens. We enjoyed a good walk with Daisy around the parkland before exploring the house and gardens. The one interesting aspect of the house was that the National Trust had developed a partnership with the National Portrait Gallery which has resulted in a permanent display of over 120 portraits of famous eighteenth century people. We finished our visit with a walk around the walled garden.
