Ron & Elena's 2007-2010 Travels travel blog

(Ron Writing) On Thursday I left North Ranch early in the morning to pick up Elena at the airport in Phoenix. We all know that airplanes ALWAYS arrive late – except this time. They had a very strong tail wind on the flight from Honolulu and arrived in Phoenix an hour EARLY. So Elena was patiently waiting for me by curbside when I arrived.

We drove to Prescott Valley, AZ to visit my sister a couple days. We had a nice visit and the weather cooperated too – we managed to time our visit between a series of rain and snow storms.

Early Saturday morning we drove back to North Ranch, hooked-up Da Honu and headed for California. About the time we crossed from AZ into CA we started getting rain and wind. The rain was heavy at times but the traffic was quite light and we didn’t have any problems. We arrived in Orange County late in the afternoon.

We’re parked in the driveway of our friends Barbara and Archie. Barbara invited us in for some of her delicious chili and cornbread last night and we had a nice visit.

This morning we enjoyed attending the Homebuilders Sunday school class at the Crystal Cathedral where we were members for several years before we started full-timing. It was so nice to see many of our friends again at this wonderful fellowship group. After church we went to lunch with a group from the class and enjoyed some time to visit with more friends.

The weather was beautiful today but the forecast is for another storm hitting this area by mid week.

(Elena Writing) I thought I'd give a summary of my brief 5-day visit to Kauai.

It was a bittersweet visit with my uncle Conrado passing away and seeing all my relatives who live in Hawaii and from afar. The memorial service was a celebration of his life with personal tribute and hula dancing. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch. In Hawaii it's customary to have a full meal and not just refreshments. A graveside service was held in the early afternoon to bury his ashes near my grandparents gravesites.

It was nice to spend time with family.
