People think that we wander and never plan ahead. They would be partly correct. Unfortunately, we need to deal with holidays.
I spend the early morning planning our next week. We are headed to Casper, Wyoming. Arriving at the end of the holiday weekend would be best. We decide to have a mini-vacation in Craig, Colorado. This is not a planned stop but we are easily entertained.
Whittle the Wood is a chainsaw carving competition held in Craig every June. In 1999, the city looked for a way to preserve the historic cottonwood trees deteriorating in the City Park. They decided to leave the tree stumps for local carvers to decorate.
Thus began the four day annual Whittle the Wood festival. During the festival, the public is invited to watch a select group of invited artists carve large cottonwood logs that are brought to the park and set vertically. After the competition, many carvings find their way to other parts of the town.
After breakfast, we go on a carving hunt. We find several before arriving at the city park.
We take lots of pictures. It is a fun morning. As I said before, we are easily entertained!
