The distant views from our site at Distant Drums RV Resort

Some of the desert garden scapes at the park

Heading into Sedona

One of many beautiful views

Red rocks everywhere

On the morning of October 11, we headed south to Distant Drums RV Resort in Camp Verde AZ. We had some light rain as we departed Williams but that stopped when we were south of Flagstaff. Tops of the tall mountains in Flagstaff were white ….. As we continued south, the weather cleared nicely and we took a long break at one of the scenic overlooks. The views there and on the rest of the trek to camp verde were awesome. The road had some 7% down hill grades, but it was not a zig zag maze with hairpin turns. Still, we took it slow and arrived at the Distant Drums at 1 pm. This is a very beautiful park, nicely landscaped. We had a back in site with full hook up, a concrete pad and patio area as well. We did find that this particular site had a pretty significant slope front to back and we needed to get some extra blocking to elevate the rear wheels so we could get the coach to level.

While here we visited historic downtown Cottonwood and did some shopping and sight seeing. We also went into Sedona. The red rocks of Sedona are simply amazing and there were many places to access hiking trails that went out to some of the beautiful scenic places. Downtown Sedona was a bit "touristy", but we had a great time wandering around. We did find a Whole Foods Market in Sedona (one of our favorites!) and they had a good selection of local micro brews in the fridge. A sample from Oak Creek Brewing Co., Sedona AZ, was selected, and …. it passed inspection!

We also took a day and drove to just outside Scottsdale to meet and visit with Bob and Ruthann. They rent our SC condo during the winter months, and although we have become good friends over the phone, we have never been able to meet them in person in SC. As things worked out, they were here in Scottsdale, so we drove down, had a wonderful visit and a super good meal at the golf course restaurant located where they stay. It was great to finally meet them in person.

Yesterday was cloudy and rainy (mmm, since we have been in camp verde there have been two rainy days, setting rain total records here in some places) so we took a short trip into the village of camp verde and checked out a wonderful consignment shop. That was followed by a stop in the village at the Moscato Italian Restaurant. Every part of the meal was "home made" right there at the restaurant. The meal was sooo good!! (and yep, no dishes to do again!!)

The morning of October 18, we will head south to Apache Junction and will be staying at the Lost Dutchman State Park for a week.
