|Drove up to the top of the gorge for the best view, after a harrowing drive on a narrow zigzag road-awesome! Then back down through the gorge and on to Ouazarte for lunch before finishing for the day at Ait ben Haddou- the medina that was restored many years ago by Universal Studios for Star wars (and has been used several times since for other movies<). Our bed was in a small 3 week old family run hotel, with a view over to the medina, which looked quite ghostly in the moonlight, as we ate a delicious tajine on the rooftop terrace. Our host told us, via Amid, that the government is trying to encourage development and the movement of people into Southern morocco so they give anyone who wants to start a business free land and a monetary grant to build a hotel such as he has done. I went to thank his wife in the kitchen after a delicious breakfast and the ktichen was all tiled, immaculate and spotlessly clean. We hope they do well, certainly we enjoyed the peace and quiet (although a bit more attention to water supply and some screens on the windows would help). We have met some very welcoming people, I stopped to talk to a shopkeeper (you know, those ones that are always trying to sell you something?) and he chatted about where he came from - 1000 kms away in the sahararan desert, how he and his friends came each tourist season to Ait ben Haddou to sell their hand made crafts- a really nice conversation.
