So we´re back on the road again, after an obviously very tough few weeks for Roland and his family. First stop Houston, Texas to stay with Roland´s brother and girlfriend, along with Roland´s Mum Janet.
Texas was as typically low key and understated as ever...everything is just BIG! Lovely to be back in the sunshine and Christan and Elizabeth great hosts as ever. Roland showed admirable brotherly loyalty by volunteering as sole passenger for Christian´s first ever flying lesson. They both had a blast and think Roland may even try and follow in his big brother´s footsteps one day...
Other highlights of our stay in Houston - aside from lilo occupation most of the day for me- included a lovely day trip to the cost at Galveston where, in true Texan style, you can drive onto the beach. Anyone who watched the Stephen Fry American series may remember him doing figures of eight in a London black cab on that beach - we paid homage... We also sampled the culinary delights of Texas BBQ at Fat Mike´s - kind of does what it says on the tin. But then, you never should trust a thin chef. Our last night in Houston was a Tiki party with Hawaiian theme, beer pong (a game involving beer and ping pong balls...), karaoke, hula hoop contest and lots of jello vodka shot-fuelled jumping in the pool (not guilty)- all good fun.
We said good bye to the Schumachers and Elizabeth on Sunday and headed off to Miami - entry to follow shortly.
Love to all and hope you´re well
Helene and Roland xx
