The Wanaka Tree

In contrast to the last AirBnB this one was mega! Great place in Wanaka, spotlessly clean with all the essentials - prefic!

The drive from Franz Joseph to Wanaka is one of the best. It takes in mountains, lakes, glaciers, the sea, waterfalls and winding roads. Loved it. Stopped off at Thunder Creek Falls, Fantail Falls and the Blue Pools - coldest swim so far just like freshly melted ice funnily enough.

Wanaka itself is a nice place, sort of aspiring to be the next Queenstown. Lots of little cafes and bars and watersports activities. As it was in the middle of a heatwave (32 degrees c) we planned on doing a day on the beach. However, I managed to find a chap going fishing on the Monday afternoon so I joined him whilst Leigh did some retail therapy and sat by the beach (right next to the Wanaka tree). Again I caught nothing - it's becoming a habit and causing much joviality amongst some I could mention! It was a good afternoon on the lake anyway.
