Ron & Elena's 2007-2010 Travels travel blog

(Elena Writing) We had a very relaxing morning doing a little work around the house and enjoyed the beautiful weather at Blackwater Falls State Park. After lunch we packed up Da Honu and headed east on H-93 to H-42 north and then H-50 east, all the way to Winchester, VA.

We enjoyed the beautiful scenery along the drive through WV. The high country is really getting a lot of color but after we drove to lower elevations, the forest is still very green. The northeast corner of WV had many small farms, forest land, and also we saw some coal mining operations. There were many quaint little towns.

We stopped in Burlington, WV at Flying "W" Farm, a fruit/meat market. This is in the heart of the apple growing region in WV and next weekend, Burlington will have its annual apple festival. We bought some meat and a half-peck of six varieties of fresh farm picked apples. The apples cost only $2.50; what a deal!

We continued a short distance to Romney, WV, where we stopped at a roadside fruit/vegetable stand. We bought beautiful tomatoes, Asian cucumbers, green and yellow zuchinni, and red peppers at great prices. I prepared a marinated tomato/cucumber salad so we can have it with our chicken salad sandwich tomorrow.

We arrived in Winchester, VA at about 5PM and stopped at a brand new Wal*Mart Supercenter where we decided to spend the night.
