Santa's Village

Terry and Roxie Visiting Rudolph in 2010

Left Pumpkin Patch at 7:30 AM. We took US-2 and entered New Hampshire about 11:15. Now there is just Uncle Jim, Clarence and Sandy and us left from the group. Nice scenic two-lane road. Stopped for lunch break and crossed over the Vermont border about 12:30. Beautiful drive. Ran into some hard rain for a few miles and then it cleared up.

On our travels today we saw from Roadside America app:

1) Birthplace of Earmuffs - The inventor of Earmuffs grew up in Farmington, Maine. Chester Greenwood, age 15, was bored in 1873, when he cobbled together his "Champion Ear Protectors".

2) Muffler Man, Paul Bunyan - a large fiberglass woodsman at the visitor's center at Rumford, Maine, home to the Tallest Falls east of the Niagara. These falls were just up the street from the statue.

3) Santa's Village - A Santa themed park in Jefferson, New Hampshire. When we were on the Fall Foliage Caravan we had stopped here for a lunch break. The park was closed but we wondered through the park and took pictures. Glad we saw it then and not today. Today it was very busy with cars filling both the parking lots.

4) Miniature Trains within a Train - Another place we had stopped on the Fall Foliage Caravan in Gorham, New Hampshire. It is a miniature train layout and museum inside the cars of an old freight train at the Gorham Railroad Station.

Arrived at Quiche/Pine Valley KOA after driving 262.3 miles. We remembered this campground from the Fall Foliage Caravan. After we rested up a bit, the five of us went out to dinner at The Shepard's Pie Restaurant. Uncle Jim insisted that he pay for all of our dinners, thanking us for him traveling with us. We all had a wonderful meal. When we got back to the campground, we decided to play cards 3-13. I won with only 5 points, beating Uncle Jim again. Not a nice thing to do when he just got though buying our dinner.
