Arrived at Hot Water Beach (not Whitianga as the map indicates) after about 6 hours in the car. Great scenery on the way so not too bad. AirBnB place is brilliant. A short walk down to the beach and very modern and clean however, this is the first time we have actually shared someone's home with them there. Vivian and Tosis (?) excellent hosts and made us very welcome. We still had time to wander down to the beach for a sun bathe and a test of the hot water. We nearly scalded our feet! Water gets to 64 degrees!

On Thursday we headed out for a bit of an explore. We were told the walk to Cathedral Cove from Hahei was worth doing so that is what we did. Really good walk - apart from Leigh stubbing her nearly recovered toe. That made her wince and need a bit of sit down but she struggled on. Bless.

After lunch in Hahei we found a brochure advertising "The 309 Road" as a great drive. As it wasn't far away we set off. To call it a road is a bit misleading - a track would be a better description! Stopped off at Waiau Falls and had a swim - damn cold. Made it to the town of Coramendal expecting to have an evening meal along the beach but there wasn't really much there so we came home - the long way as it happens.

Nice quiet day on Lonely Bay beach on Saturday - very nice but not very lonely! Did see a Sun Halo though. In the evening we went down to the local cafe (Hot Waves) for the open mic night and had great burgers. Really good evening.
