Lars and I decided to take the bus to Al Alamain where Montgomery defeated Rommel. The desert campaign went on from 1940 through 1942 and was a huge turning point in the war. Al Alamain is about 100 kilometers from Alexandria. The bus just dumped us on the road and we walked through the heat and dust to the museum and the cemetery. It must have been awfully hot in those tanks!
The campaign waged back and forth between Libya and Egypt. In the end Rommel's forces where chased 1500 miles through the desert.
Coming back Lars was fearful he was sitting next to a terrorist as the guy sang from the Koran for the entire journey while everyone else ignored him.
