Today was a real adventure day, we went ATV’s around the Empire Ranch. Apache ATV Tours was the company we went with. I was concerned that I couldn’t stay on it but Jim the owner said not to worry that they would work with me to drive one. We met him at the Empire Ranch around 9 am to take a 4 hour tour of Empire, ended up 5 hours. The Empire Ranch is now 50,000 acres of open range and still a working cattle ranch. The Bureau of Land Management now owns it. In its hay day it was over 100,000 acres with 40,000 head of cattle roaming the area. We did see lots of cattle and a herd of Antelope, but that was all the animals we came across during our 4 hour, 35 mile trip back in time. The ranch is very popular with the film industry, many western movies were filmed here. As you can see by the partial list of movies that were filmed here.

There were 2 other couples that were with us from Phoenix that have done the different trips he offers. They rode 2 to a ATV while Candy and I had our separate ATV to drive. We only had the 4 ATV’s with Jim in front and Jack, his helper, was the tail gunner. Only thing was the dust so we tried to keep a distance between everyone. It was a lot of fun but straddling that machine get to you after a bit. We return to the motorhome to relax because knocking around on an ATV just wears out old people.
