|We began the famous 17.5 Mile Bike Route at the north end in Pacific Grove. It is just south of the the famed Monterey Aquarium. The bike path follows the scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach and hugs the Pacific Coast. It twists and winds through magnificent vistas of the ocean. Several famed golf courses line the road, Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill, Poppy Hill, and of course, Pebble Beach. The homes lining the road are spectacular mansions-homes of the rich and famous. The landscaping and views have been the subject of many paintings and pictures. The day was perfect weather for our 20 mile journey. It was somewhat overcast with a cool off shore wind to counteract the effects of our exertion. Endless groves of wild flowers lined our path and were an inspiration to our efforts. We stopped at Spanish Bay Resort for a breather. The Spanish Bay was the site of the rehearsal dinner we attended four years ago when Barbara's cousin's son,John, married his California sweetheart Heather. It was a very special night with very special memories. Barb and Nancy shopped the shops and we walked to the beach and savored the moist sea air pungent with the smell of seaweed. Golfers whacked seriously on the adjacent emerald green golf course and dreamed of that perfect Tiger Woods drive towards the cup. We then resumed our trip with new vigor and rode to the hallmark symbol of the area-The Lone Cypress. Barb and Nancy had their battles and panic with the occasional tour buses which shared our narrow road. The pine trees, the cypress trees and the rocky coast and ocean create the magic that etches a permanent image within our spirit. We rode 18.5 miles total and had a good workout. We concluded our day with an early afternoon lunch at Latitudes in Pacific Grove. Barb and I had Halibut oriental salad. Bill had sand dabs. Nancy had seared tuna. All our dishes were excellent. The sun finally made a brief appearance as we strolled Lover's Point Park at Pacific Grove and reminisced of yesterday's Kayak trip just off this coast.
