Doug's RFTW 2015 travel blog

On Sunday, after morning meetings including church service, we departed Goodland, KS just after 8am. Oakley, KS was our lunch stop although I chose to nap in the truck rather than eat. That was a good idea! From Oakley we went on to Junction City, KS to a very warm welcome and a nice ceremony at the Kansas State Vietnam Memorial. Just as we were arriving the clutch on Leroy's bike failed to operate. So when we mounted back up we went directly to the City Cycle HD shop. They took it right in and determined that it was just an adjustment. No charge! We missed the dinner at the Nazarene Church so we checked into the hotel and had pizza and beer instead. Then I started to update the trip journal but I was too tired to concentrate so I showered and hit the sack.

Monday is day 11 of my trip. Feeling better this morning. Our first stop was at the Topeka Service Center for fuel and some truck-stop coffee. Then a small group including

Leroy broke out early to stop at the OOIDA HQ (Owner/Operator Independent Driver Association)for an interview which will be aired over a 'trucker popular' SIRUS radio station. Hopefully it will inform the truckers better about why we ride. As of this morning we are approaching 500 registered riders on the Central Route. We do our best to not interfere with traffic, specially truckers. We realize that they are on schedules and working hard to earn their living. But our mission is important too. A quarter of a century of doing this has taught us the safest way to run the pack. So if they will give us a break we will give them a break, when it is safe to do so.

Once more I an too tired to load the photos but I promise to do that soon.
