Ashville Spring 2011 travel blog

This is our last day here.

Yesterday it rained in the morning and we spent the day reading at the campground. The sun did come out after 12 noon and we could sit by the river. No new pics.

Today we went into the city and took a trolly tour. The tour allows on and off priveleges for two days. Of course we are leaving tomorrow morning early so won't be using it tomorrow. But it's good to know for when we come back. Next time we are here we will explore the city more.

No new pics today either. So we learned that Asheville has lots of art deco construction. When the depression hit the city was so poor they couldn't afford to tear old buildings down so they still have them and an historic society to police the new owners. There is a 2 mile walking tour of the city with lots of statuary along the route, 19 or so micro-breweries in town (there is a brew cruise touring some of them complete with samples), an art district, and lots of barbecue. We think the ribs we got right down the street from the campground is the best we have ever had.

So spending the afternoon reading by the river (if I don't finish my mystery before we go back it won't get done till school is out and I will have forgotten most of it). We plan on leaving real early tomorrow and will stop at Endless Caverns for Friday nite.

Thats all for now.
