There’s not a lot of options for getting off Vancouver Island, and on the whole I’m perfectly okay with that. However, lately we both feel that we prefer to fly through Seattle when we are making overseas trips, rather than Vancouver.

Long ago a friend tipped us off to the fact that one can usually get better value using Aeroplan points when the starting point begins outside of Canada. It seems there are far fewer taxes applied to the trip, compared to a series of flights that begin within Canada.

We’ve now started accumulating Alaska Airlines points as well because we want to use the airline for flight to explore more of the west coast and Mexico.
