Elk Herd

We leave Fishing Bridge RV after a great night’s sleep. We head back to the lower loop road. Our first stop is Mud Volcano. When looking at the picture I post, imagine a big bowl of bubbling MUD.

We follow the Yellowstone River north. John keeps thinking of all the fish he should be catching! We see buffalo and find ourselves in a minor buffalo traffic jam. The buffalo are crossing the road to the meadow for a drink.

We arrive at Canyon Village. The south rim road is open. We drive to Artist Point. Wow, what a photo opportunity. We see the lower falls complete with a rainbow. It is difficult to tear ourselves away from this spot.

We turn west toward Norris. We drive through forests of lodge pole pines. They look like long poles with Christmas trees on the top.

We stop at the Norris Geyser Basin. We do some hiking but a person could spend the day. There are two major hiking loops. We get our exercise.

Our next stop is the artists paint pots. I take the 1/3 mile hike because of the name but it is a bit of a letdown. I guess I am spoiled!

The rest of the day is about buffalo. We stop to take pictures of a herd in the distance. We stop at a pull off where the herd is right in front of us.

We continue up the road. Here comes a buffalo herd right at us. Cars stop in both directions. Where are my roller skates when I need them? Oh, that is right; you can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd. The herd is passing by as everyone is trying to get pictures.

As we are leaving the park, we finally see a herd of elk. The elk are pretty far away but it is a start.

We are now staying in West Yellowstone, MT. We will travel back into the park tomorrow. There is so much to see!
