NAPIER - Wednesy 7th February (Day 103)

With time running out we could only have one night in Napier, so after a 5 hour bus ride from Wellington in the morning, it was straight onto a 2 hour walking tour of Napier, conducted by the Napier Art Deco Trust. Gill is a great fan of Art Deco architecture, so was in her element during the tour. Napier unfortunately was destroyed by a huge earthquake and subsequent fire in 1931. In the following 2 years the town was almost completely rebuilt leaving a town today almost entirely in the style on the early 1930's, Art Deco. There is nothing like it in so concentrated an area anywhere in the world. Delightful!
