Today we decided to drive to the other end of the lake to the lakeshore town of Lindau. However due to heavy traffic and road works the journey seemed to take forever.

As it was July and because of its location it was a popular tourist destination. However after parking there were very few signs or maps to the old town which sits on an island in the lake. We eventually found our way to the historic harbour which was busy with ferry boats and yachts. The entrance to the harbour is guarded by a tall lighthouse and a lion. On the quay there was another large tower called the Mangtrum which was the original lighthouse in the 13th century.

The town itself had some highly decorated buildings along with, gabled houses along narrow lanes which gave some indication of its medieval past. However it did not have quite the same charm of Meersburg we had visited a couple of days before.

Our journey back to base was slightly better.
