Port Louis, Mauritius

3/21 – 3/23

Another two sea days and 1097 miles brought us to Port Louis, Mauritius. On one of those sea days we took a galley (kitchen) tour. The galley prepares food for up to 1380 passengers and 620 crew members. The galley staff consists of 96 persons supervised by an executive chief. Some examples of weekly consumption include: 8500 lbs of meet, 3814 lbs poultry, 1875 lbs fish, 2575 lbs seafood, 12,500 lbs fresh vegetables, 4750 lbs of potatoes, 200 gallons of ice cream and 18040 eggs. And Joan and I did our part to keep up the consumption.

In the morning, after we arrived in Port Louis, we took a tour of the bridge. The ship’s officer who gave the tour made the operation sound so easy. One little stick does all the work – well, most of it. After the tour we took a shuttle into town. We only stayed for an hour because it was Sunday and everything was closed up.
