Walking to San Clemente Beach

What a fabulous day!

We drove to Dana Point which is just south of Leguna Beach to have Sunday Brunch. Our college friend, Randy West, lives about 15 minutes south of here and suggested we meet at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort. This would have been a treat just for the ambiance. We sat on the third floor patio where we could see the ocean, the pool, and three huge fountains. Talk about living the life of the rich and famous...wow. It looked like a set from Beverly Hills. Then there was the buffet. Of course there was tons of food. Eggs Benedict, made to order omelets, made to order pancakes and crepes, all kinds of fresh fruit and homemade muffins. Then there was the Asian section, the entree section, and the dessert section. I can't come close to describing it all. Everything I had was delicious. The waiters were friendly and showed up frequently to refill glasses and remove empty plates without being pests.

Of course the company was fantastic as usual. We had a great time catching up and solving the problems of the world. Randy even got me to tell a somewhat condensed version of my story (how I got to SMU, met Stan, my major, my masters, etc.). He must really be a good psychologist. He certainly got me to talking about things I haven't thought about for years.

Randy suggested we make the short drive to San Clemente for the beach and pier. As we found the pier it quickly became obvious parking would be an issue. About the time we were ready to give up we found street parking at the top of the hill. By that time it was after 5 and although we weren't really hungry, we did want something. There were a couple of restaurants on the pier but when we walked by we saw they were full and had people waiting. We decided to go back across the street where we opted for ice cream. Not exactly what we were looking for but it was good ice cream and we could sit and watch the surfers from a table outside. Once we looked around at a couple of shops we decided we needed to get back to the rig to let the dog out.

Although we took the Pacific Coast Highway on the way down and that is a really nice drive, we opted for the interstate to go back. Again we bogged down in traffic, but this time after a few minutes we realized the problem was a wreck and all the lookie loos. Once we got past that, the drive was easy and our dog, CJ, was happy to see us.
