WELLINGTON - Monday 5th February to Tuesday 6th (Days 101 & 102)

The ferry ride from Picton to Wellington seemed longer that the 3 hours it actually took. The weather again was at it's best and the crossing fairly smooth, fortunate as the Cook Straight can be very, very rough.

The next day we did the 'must-do' tourist attraction by taking the cable car from the city up the steep hill to Kelburn, for great views of Wellington, plus an interesting Cable Car Museum. From there we strolled back down to the city through the delightful Botanic Gardens. We then followed the 'Red Carpet' walking tour through Wellington (the 2km route that the stars of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King took along a red carpet at the films premier in 2003!) which took in other city attractions like the Parliament House. We ended the day with a walk by the harbour and a great beer at a micro-brewery!

All in all both Gill and I liked Wellington very much.
