In local time we were up yesterday morning at a quarter past midnight so this morning we had a lie in and the alarm didn't have to be set until 4:35am as we went to see the sunrise over Ayers rock.

We had a picnic breakfast from the hotel and enjoyed Coffee and fruit juice as the day got light and then the sun rose. Starting from the sight of the morning star to the full sun and return of the flies. Wendy, did you tell us about the flies. I'm sure there is an appropriate adjective the locals use to describe them!!!

We went for a walk round the base of the rock to the Mutitjulu water hole and saw cave paintings and Kantju gorge. We ended up at the cultural centre before returning to the hotel.

The afternoon was drive to Kings Canyon and the chance to catch up on some sleep. We passed Mt Connor, a flat topped mountain and then made our way to Kings canyon resource centre passing the George Gill ranges which looked an impressive skyline.

A quick look at the climb planned for tomorrow and then to the hotel for a rest and dinner
