Today we visited the town of Cardigan. Until the River Teifi silted up in the 19th century Cardigan was once a large and important seaport. It was from here that many emigration boats set sail for Canada and the USA. Today there is little evidence of port.

It was a nice town to wander around and it did have a castle which wasn’t that impressive so we decided we would walk along the river to the Welsh Wildlife Centre in the Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve.

Returning to Cardigan we then made our way to the small village of Cilgerran to the castle which stands high above the River Teifi, which was much more impressive than the Cardigan castle, before heading back to base
