|We had an easy drive today (but an expensive one in tolls) on I-90 across NY state. I read some information about the Erie Canal to Clarence as we were able to see parts of it along this route. There are 36 locks that connect 363 miles of waterway from Albany, NY to Buffalo. Construction began in 1817 with German, Irish, and British immigrants providing he labor. They dug it with shovels and horse power earning them 80 cents a day.It is the most successful human built waterway and tranverses a total elevation differentiation of 556 feet. We spent the night at the Westfield-Lake Erie KOA which was across the street from Lake Erie.
