We left Jasper planning to drive to Grande Cache for one night. We pulled into the visitor center and ran into Tom and Suzanne. They drove on to Grand Prairie while we checked out the town.
Cache's were towers that the traders used to store their pelts so animals couldn't get to them. Seems like there was a competition to have the biggest and best - thus the town was named Grande Cache.
We made the decision to go ahead and drive a couple more hours to Grand Prairie and endure more of that mountain scenery. We drove by a huge coal mining operation on the way.
We boondocked in Walmart's parking lot. We were not alone. We met people from Kentucky, South Dakota and Wisconsin that were going the same route we are. I don't think the Alaska Highway will be a lonely one.
