On the Road with Tom and Gloria travel blog

Tours of Milton House are given every day between Memorial Day and Labor Day - the rest of the year it is weekends and by appointment. I was hoping to tag along on a school tour today but traffic on I90 coming out of Chicago was horrendous so the kids were gone by the time I pulled into the Museum parking lot. A disappointment? - yes - but it was more important to have a leisurely brunch with Colin and Owen today . I left at 2pm thinking I would zip out of town at that hour but no such luck.

Milton House is a hexagon house built in 1844 and it was the first poured concrete house in the United States. It was a stagecoach stop and inn and also has a 100 foot tunnel that was used during the time of the underground railroad. I am sure I would have learned lots more if I would have had a tour . Too bad.
