| We met Darrel and Diane for breakfast and they were our tour guides for the afternoon. We visited Point No Point Lighthouse and Foulweather Bluff. Point no Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the west side of Puget Sound in the small town of Hansville, WA. It is the oldest lighthouse on Puget Sound. In 1977 the lighthouse became fully automated and by 1997 it was abandoned and left empty until the Kitsap County Parks and recreation leased it. It is the national headquartes of the U.S. Lighthouse Society, a non profit for the preservation of lighthouses. FoulWeather Bluff is further north of the lighthouse. We took about a one mile hike through 100 ft Alders, Douglas Fir, Sword fern to reach the beach area. It is a very healthy lowland forest. While on the beach we saw a bald eagle, blue heron and osprey. The combination of forest, marsh, bluff beach and saltwater makes this a important wildlife haven on the Peninsula. |
