Bridal Veil Falls

After breakfast at the hotel we set off for hamilton in the sun. The road we intended to take was closed for repairs so we went on the main road to Otorohanga before turning off on SH31 to Kawhia. A beautiful old fishing village. Unfortunately the sun disappeared as the clouds came in and by the time we arrived in Kawhia it was raining. Nearby at the ocean beach is a hot spring where you can dig in the sand and find hot water immediately. Unfortunately the tide was full in so that also had to be bypassed today. Driving on we took the unsealed road to Raglan which is about 35 kilometres of gravel road and I couldn't believe it when the road to Bridal Veils falls was also shut for repairs. Fortunately we were able to access the road from the other end and found the falls as we remembered them and sun was shining. The day had turned. We climbed down 225 steps to the base of the falls which was great until you remembered you had to climb back up 225 steps!!

Christine reluctantly took the car keys and drove us to Raglan. After her comments aboutmy driving during this holiday I'm not saying a word!

We had lunch by the waterfront and enjoyed a relaxing couple of hours looking round the town and lapping up the sunshine.

The drive to Hamilton was only about an hour and apart from a minor diversion we found Anthony and gaynor's house with little difficulty. It was great to see them again and it hardly seemed we'd been away.
