We're now at Sawley - the township of Sawley is in Derbyshire, but we are on the canal beside the River which separates Derbyshire and Leicestershire. We're on the Leicestershire side.
We're moored opposite the Sawley Marina where our friends Sam & Joan have their narrow boat moored for the winter. So, whilst in the area we are catching up with them.
Sam (Father Christmas!!!) is relatively new to boating - we met them in Newark Marina when they had their boat put in the water last October. So he was telling Tony he couldn't reverse the boat and everyone he had spoken to had said it's impossible to reverse a narrow boat (this is other narrow boaters!!!!) So Tony set out to teach him how to do it and prove them all wrong. Sam was very proud of himself after returning to the mooring pen in the Marina without a wrong move - it's a very tight squeeze to get the boats in to the pens as some boats stick out more than others and the gap between seems very small.
It was a beautiful day so Joan and I sat on the canal path and soaked up the sunshine whilst watching the lessons. They have 5 little Yorkshire Terriers so they all sat with us being very well behaved and barking at all the bike riders as they went past.
Tony has talked them into coming with us tomorrow as we head towards Leicester just to get them out of the Marina for a week.
