Ron & Elena's 2007-2010 Travels travel blog

(Ron Writing) After a nice leisurely breakfast we got a late start and then lost one hour as we crossed into New Mexico.

We drove southeast on US-70 across the San Carlos Indian Reservation (Apache) through some very scenic high desert areas. This route took us through Safford, Duncan, and then Lordsburg, NM where we got on I-10 east. After fueling-up in Lordsburg we drove to Deming, NM where we are spending the night at the Wal*Mart Supercenter. As we arrived we noticed signs posted that said “no overnight parking allowed”. We were about ready to leave when the security guard drove up, asked if we intended to stay for the night, and then told us where we should park. I asked about that ominous sign and he said, “don’t worry about that sign!" Now at about 6 PM there are at least 10 RVs here!

We were driving into a very stiff head-wind all day so got very poor gas mileage. Maybe we’ll get a tail-wind tomorrow to make up for it!

The navigator on this team is taking a real liking to the new GPS. It knows where all the WalMarts are! Elena still follows along on the map as a doublecheck but so far it has taken us to our destination.
