Our Guide - John

Mom's Pies

On Friday, John picked us up in the afternoon and drove us to an area around Temecula that we would never have found on our own. Our first stop was a very small winery called Hawk's Watch that you would definitely have to know was there to find it. The tasting room is inside the warehouse surrounded by barrels of wine. The person conducting the tasting is the wife of the guy who makes the wine. It was excellent. The area is very rustic...right up my alley.

From there we drove up in the mountains and stopped in a town called Julien. John took us to Mom's Pies where we had a piece of pie each. DELICIOUS! We looked around one of the shops downtown that had a lot of unique items for sale.

On the other side of the mountain, we stopped in Santa Ysabel at Dudley's Bakery. I don't think I've ever seen so many different kinds of bread in my life. I bought some Raisin Bread and it is very good. We should have had a straight shot home from there, but took a wrong turn and ended up going the long way to get back. We didn't mind the extra miles and actually enjoyed the scenery.

It was another great day and I can't say enough about our guide, John, who has gone out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay in Temecula.
